Italy is such a romantic country and the Amalfi Coast is a perfect romantic honeymoon that offers something for everyone. Amalfi is in the Campania region of Italy and is a UNESCO World Heritage site covering 34 miles.
Arguably they number one thing to do is drive the coast from Sorrento to Salerno. However by “drive” I suggest hiring a driver or taking the bus if you are on a budget. My husband wanted to drive it himself and white knuckled the whole time and was so busy driving he didn’t enjoy it at all. The roads are EXTREMELY narrow, curvy and hug a cliff. At one point, he had to pull in his side mirror to barely get by the car on the other side!
Personal recommendation: We stopped at Ristorante Torre Normanna in Maiori for a scenic lunch break. The food was fantastic and you can’t beat the view. And if you are considering a destination wedding – you could even have your reception there!
Another option for seeing the coast is a tour by boat. It’s a great way to get to see the coast from a different perspective. If you are driving parking is a nightmare and the boats can drop you off to explore Positano, Amalfi, and Ravello without the hassle.
Another boat trip you don’t want to miss is a tour out to Capri. Where you’ll get to see so many beautiful grottos where the azure colors are breathtaking. Once on Capri, be sure to stop and have an afternoon Spritz in one of the cafes.
While we are on the topic of cocktails, Sorrento is world famous for their lemons and you have to try the limoncello while here. We did a foodie walking tour that was fun and included a stop at one of the producers. When you need an afternoon pick up you won’t have any trouble finding an espresso and be sure to try some gelato!
Spring and early fall are the best time to visit. Summer is overcrowded and late fall into winter can be cold and rainy. Whenever you choose to go, you can be sure a honeymoon along the Amalfi Coast is truly “la dolce vita”!
