An Expression of Affection

Julia + Jeff

La Jolla Woman’s Club

The wedding of Julia and Jeff was a celebration of love styled in a theme of quiet luxury. The breathtaking ceremony took place at St. James by-the-Sea Episcopal Church, followed by dinner and dancing at the historic La Jolla Woman’s Club.

The couple’s design inspiration stemmed from a variety of influences. A love of the ocean and garden. An appreciation for the juxtaposition of casual and elegant. An admiration for the style of iconic designers, such as Ralph Lauren. With an eye on marrying classic tradition with hints of glamour, Julia and Jeff partnered with acclaimed event planner Heather Balliet of Amorology Weddings to build on an aesthetic that was authentic to their interests.

The attire set the tone. Julia wore an Alexandra Grecco gown fashioned with a stunning bateau neckline that harkened a feeling of timeless elegance. Her bridesmaids selected navy blue dresses by Jenny Yoo that were of varying but complementary style. Jeff and his groomsmen donned classic black tuxedos. The personal floral, created by the incomparable Annette Gomez Flowers, highlighted the look: a handheld bouquet of gardenia for the bride, and bouquets of white roses for the bridesmaids.

“Julia and Jeff wanted their reception to feel effortlessly refined. We wove approachable textures, like distressed wood and iron, with garden elements to create a space that was both humble and grand,” explained Heather Balliet. Guests were greeted at the cocktail hour with a playful display of escort cards tucked in garden soil. A wooden cabana with custom linen valances was built to frame the head dining table. Guest seating mixed both round and rectangular tables with wooden and wrought iron chairs to accentuate the garden atmosphere. Linens in bone velvet and a blue leaf pattern, punctuated by blue ticking stripe napkins, enhanced the style. Annette Gomez created centerpieces that incorporated arrangements of white garden roses, lily of the valley, sweet pea, and magnolia leaf with rustic pots filled with herbs that were repurposed to Julia’s home garden.

Dinner was prepared by the renowned Toast Catering. Wanting to offer the lighthearted and unexpected, Julia and Jeff chose a menu of hamburgers and other fun fare. The day’s events were impeccably captured by photographer Shannon Moffit and the videographers of Black Shutter Media. Music throughout the evening was provided by Tyler Grant and JM Entertainment.
