Q+A with Merilee Hennings, Founder, EverAfter Events
Merilee Hennings brings grace, ease, and impeccability to every wedding and event she creates. Since 2003, she and the esteemed EverAfter Events team have designed and produced flawless celebrations for discerning clientele. We asked Merilee to share her wisdom on important questions that arise during wedding planning.
What is the greatest asset of hiring a wedding planner? I believe it is the 30,000-foot view that comes from an experienced planner’s knowledge of the process. To have someone see the complete picture of what is being created and executed during the event’s entirety is invaluable. It allows for the details of the day to be handled in a seamless manner.
How might a couple make guests feel most welcome at their wedding and ensure they enjoy themselves for the entire event? I recommend that the couple keep their wedding moving from start to finish, allowing for very little downtime. Additionally, creating an inviting, comfortable atmosphere is appreciated by any guest, and engaging the five senses is a lovely way to achieve that.
Sight: Stunning decor and design details prompt conversation.
Touch: Layer textures with table linens, napkins, china, and printed materials.
Sound: Music sets the tone; maintain a comfortable sound level for your background music during cocktails and dinner to not disrupt conversation. It is equally considerate that dancing music includes something for everyone to enjoy.
Scent: Delicious hors d’oeuvres, dinner cuisine, and desserts draw guests in.
Taste: Luscious specialty drinks, dinner cuisine, and desserts create enthusiasm!
What should the couple plan for post-wedding? First and foremost, enjoy being married! For the weeks to follow, create a schedule to write and mail guest and vendor thank- you notes, clean and preserve wedding attire, and preserve bouquets and special floral.
What unique trends are you seeing currently? Thoughtful touches, such as handwritten notes for guests, and customizing details are most popular.
What advice is imperative to share with couples planning a wedding today? Be intentional about who you invite and what you include on your day’s itinerary; please do what is special to you!
