Curating Experiences

Q+A with Heather Balliet, Amorology Weddings

Heather Balliet and her team at Amorology are passionate about curating experiences. Their connectivity through creative thinking illuminates the way forward as they work to create a boutique-driven design process, uniquely tailored to the story of each couple. We asked Heather to share her knowledge about bringing together both the meaningful and playful details of a wedding.

How do you tailor your questions to each couple in order to get to know their love story? We spend time getting to know our couples by learning of their interests and what they love doing together. We’re always looking for meaningful moments in their story and history together that set them apart from other couples and ignite inspiration for out-of-the-box design.

Tell us a time where your team’s emphasis on elegant surprises and whimsical touches came to life. It always means the most to us when we know that we’ve connected our couples to the design and when we see their eyes light up or when a bride is brought to tears like we recently experienced with Tia Blanco and Brody Jenner when we shared our design deck inspired by their daughter Honey. We used honeydew in the table decorations as well as honeysuckle in the florals. Bear jars were sprinkled on the dessert table and offered to guests as they left the wedding, each one filled with local California honey.

What kickstarts the design process? We love discovering the moments that have meant the most to the couple such as when we heard the story of a groom going in search of a grandmother’s lost wedding ring in the sand at the beach. We took this as inspiration to create a “you are my treasure” seating display with magnifying glasses calligraphed with guest names. Or with Samantha & Steven, who are both ceramicists and wood workers, we worked alongside them to create a “set in stone” backdrop.

How much time do you dedicate to each bride and groom? With each couple, we invest hundreds of hours curating the right vendors, design, and details to create a one-of-a-kind event; from linens to tabletop to seating displays and drink names, every detail is thoughtfully gathered.

What advice do you have for guests? Take time to stop and wander throughout the event to take in all the emotions, meaning, and details of the day. As a team we love curating Easter egg moments to delight guests upon discovery! We love being able to hide little gems throughout the space, in a small, subtle way as to come together and tell a story. A playful component is truly incorporated as it’s up to the guest to look around and find that meaning.
