Ask Abby: How to Pick a Maid of Honor

By sdwedding

When it comes to your bridal party, it can be stressful deciding who should be in it and who shouldn’t. Once you have your lineup set, then you have to pick your Maid of Honor.

This can be challenging for many reasons. First there’s the obvious family ties, and if you have a sister, then tradition says she has to be it. But what if you and your sister aren’t close or you have multiple sisters?

And if you don’t have a sister? Then there’s the matter of deciding between friends who should be considered the “lucky one” to get to hold your bouquet. But here’s the thing. If your friends are special enough to be included in your bridal party, then that should be enough!

Some options to solving these problems are to have multiple maids of honor, or just not have one at all. In today’s day and age, doing a few things out of tradition is totally okay!

Regardless of who you choose to be your Maid of Honor, your bridesmaids are there to help you through the wedding planning and celebrate you and your fiance. So do what’s best for you and your bride tribe and remember, it’s YOUR day and that’s what should matter in the end!
