Jeniece and Jonathan met in art class in San Diego after Jeniece and her friend Amy moved to San Diego from Texas. Jonathan proposed to her quietly at home in Texas with their son Kasen present and they returned to San Diego to marry since Jonathan is a big surfing fan and his family lives in San Diego.
Jonathan is a professional sculptor and artist so the couple chose “modern artistic romance” as the theme of their fun and lively wedding in keeping with their artsy modern tastes. In order to achieve a nightclub mood, their colors were black, white, and a very bold lime green, creating a funky look. Only lime green flowers were used.
They married in Little Italy in downtown San Diego at the W Hotel on the sand floor beach rooftop which overlooks the beautiful San Diego city skyline. Eighty-four guests attended from Minnesota, Tennessee, Texas, and also Jeniece’s good friend came all the way from China.
The beautiful damask linens for the wedding reception including runners, tablecloths, and pillows were made by Jeneice’s mom, Jilynn Davis. She creatively sewed them so they could be stuffed later and turned into pillows, which are now in their home in their guest room which they have decorated to be a “tribute to their wedding.” Their invitations were on recycled paper and their colorful three-tiered cake had a black and white damask pattern square with lime green orchids.
Jeniece’s dress was a very simple all satin drop waist backless sheath style with straps crisscrossed in back, and in keeping with their fun artsy theme she went barefoot. She carried a green bouquet of cymbidium orchids, roses, and monkey tails.
Guests were delighted when she changed into a black and white mini dress for the reception and wore big black, white and lime green shoes.
Four bridesmaids wore simple strapless black knee length dresses and were all barefoot and they carried a bouquet of black and white anemones.
Jonathan wore an all black tux with black shirt and white satin tie. He drew a black and white graphic of a tree with an owl in it and they screen printed it on his tie. Jeniece’s son wore a matching tux with a tie that also included the owl graphic. The groomsmen wore a white shirt, black pants, and fun skate shoes, and the owl graphic was printed on their shirts.
Jenieces’s ring is a vintage inspired princess cut diamond and Jonathan’s is a unique titanium and burl wood.
The couple is planning a fun trip to Costa Rica this summer for surf and sun.
